Published judgments: privacy notice. Nick Robinson, a barrister at 3PB, holds copies of judgments published by The National Archives on Find Case Law, and machine summaries of them, for his own legal research and to check the authorities he cites. Judgments contain personal data, including about people convicted of offences, complainants and witnesses. He uses them only as they are published, follows each judgment's own anonymisation, never names a complainant, keeps no index by person, and removes a judgment when it is withdrawn or replaced. The summaries are written with an AI model service, which may process the judgments in the United States. Apart from that service, and the email provider that holds the emails sent to him, nothing is published or shared with anyone else. The lawful basis is legitimate interests, and for sensitive and criminal offence data the conditions for legal claims and the administration of justice. To ask about your data, or to object, write to nick@foolscap.ai. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
